Louis Owens

Louis Owens (1948–2002) was an internationally acclaimed novelist and a scholar of Steinbeck and Native American literature. He received several top book awards for his fiction and scholarly work, his novels exploring themes close to the author’s own upbringing as a mixed-blood Choctaw, Cherokee, and Irish-American. Owens was also a Professor of English and Native American Studies and Director of Creative Writing at the University of California, in Davis.
